Local Leadership Revolutionizes Westpac Fiji’s Future

Westpac has appointed Mr. Ravikash Chand as the new Head of Finance for Westpac Fiji, marking a significant move towards local leadership within the organization. His predecessor, Matthew Abbott, will be missed, having played a crucial role in the bank’s financial direction. This appointment is part of a broader trend at the bank, which has seen an increasing number of local professionals taking on prominent roles in Fiji’s oldest bank.

Shane Smith was appointed Chief Executive of Westpac Fiji in 2021, becoming the first Fijian to hold this position since the company began operations in 1901. His appointment reflects Westpac Fiji’s commitment to nurturing local talent and enhancing community relationships.

With extensive banking experience and a profound understanding of the local market, Shane is well-positioned to guide Westpac Fiji through a period of growth and innovation.

Earlier this year, Dinesh Kumar, another local, was appointed as Head of Retail. Dinesh brings over 15 years of experience in the financial sector, with 13 years dedicated to banking.

Shane Smith noted, “These changes reflect Westpac’s commitment to continuity, promoting regional leadership, and ensuring we remain at the forefront of financial excellence in Fiji.” He expressed enthusiasm for the promising future that lies ahead for clients and staff alike.

As Westpac Fiji embarks on this new chapter, it reaffirms its commitment to delivering top-notch banking services and supporting Fiji’s economic development. Ravikash’s appointment is a testament to Westpac Fiji’s ongoing focus on community engagement, leadership, and innovation.
