Local Leaders Steer Westpac Fiji into a New Era

Westpac has appointed Mr. Ravikash Chand as the new Head of Finance for Westpac Fiji, marking yet another instance of a local assuming a significant role within the country’s oldest bank. The bank acknowledges the contributions of Matthew Abbott, who played a key role in its financial leadership and will be missed.

Shane Smith, who made history in 2021 as Westpac Fiji’s first Fijian Chief Executive since the bank’s establishment in 1901, emphasized the company’s commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening community connections. His leadership is seen as a pivotal moment for Westpac Fiji as it aims to grow and innovate.

Shane’s extensive banking experience and deep knowledge of the local market position him well to guide Westpac Fiji through a new era of expansion. Earlier this year, Dinesh Kumar, another local talent, was appointed as Head of Retail, bringing over 15 years of experience in the financial sector, with 13 years in banking.

These leadership changes reflect Westpac’s dedication to ensuring continuity and promoting regional expertise while striving to remain a leader in the Fijian banking industry. Shane Smith expressed enthusiasm about the promising future that awaits their clients and employees.

As Westpac Fiji embarks on this new chapter, it reaffirms its commitment to delivering top-tier banking services and supporting the economic growth of Fiji. Ravikash’s appointment underscores the bank’s ongoing dedication to community engagement, leadership, and innovation.
