Local Leaders at Westpac Fiji: A New Era Begins

Westpac has officially named Mr. Ravikash Chand as the new Head of Finance for Westpac Fiji, marking a significant local leadership appointment. The bank will miss Matthew Abbott, who played a crucial role in its financial leadership. This appointment is part of a broader trend over the past few years, where more local professionals have taken on key roles at Fiji’s oldest bank.

Shane Smith, who became the Chief Executive of Westpac Fiji in 2021, made history as the first Fijian to hold this position since the institution’s inception in 1901. His appointment represents a pivotal moment in Westpac Fiji’s strategy to nurture local talent and strengthen its community connections.

With extensive banking experience and a deep understanding of the local market, Smith is well-positioned to guide Westpac Fiji through a period of growth and innovation.

Earlier this year, Dinesh Kumar, a local resident, was also appointed as Head of Retail. Kumar brings over 15 years of experience in the financial sector, with 13 years specifically in banking.

“These leadership changes reflect Westpac’s commitment to continuity, the promotion of regional leadership, and ensuring we lead in Fijian financial excellence,” Smith noted, expressing enthusiasm about the exciting opportunities ahead for both clients and staff.

As Westpac Fiji embarks on this new chapter, it remains devoted to delivering exceptional banking services and supporting Fiji’s economic development. Ravikash’s appointment reaffirms Westpac Fiji’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, leadership, and innovation.
