Ten local coaches are currently participating in a five-day coaching course, the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) B-licence Part Two, at the Fiji Football Association Academy in Ba. This course commenced on Sunday and is scheduled to wrap up on Thursday, with the objective of elevating the coaching standards and enhancing the coaches’ knowledge and skills.
Coach Educator Yogendra Dutt emphasized the focus on six key competencies throughout the course. These areas include football fundamentals, leadership skills, game strategy, player development, the coaching process itself, and culminating with the formation of a personal football philosophy. Dutt mentioned that the course is designed not only to provide growth opportunities for the coaches but also to encourage them to adapt to new challenges they might face in their coaching careers.
This training course builds upon the achievements of the B-licence Part One session that was completed in December 2023 at the Suva Academy. The ongoing program is facilitated by Dutt alongside national coach Rob Sherman.
Among the coaches attending this course are Ronil Kumar from Ba, Babs Khan from Suva, Roderick Singh from Rewa, Saiyad Ali from Navua, Rozal Hussain from Savusavu, Johan Leewai from Labasa, Mohammed Asif Khan from Nadi, Dhiren Chand from Ba, Shawal Prasad from Tavua, and Alvin Chand from Labasa.
This initiative highlights an investment in local talent, aiming to strengthen the future of football in the region by ensuring that coaches are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge. It sets the stage for a new generation of highly skilled coaches who can inspire and develop local players, paving the way for improved performance at all levels of the sport.
This commitment to coaching education is a positive step towards building a robust football community in Fiji and the surrounding region, showcasing a dedication to both personal growth and the development of football as a whole.
