Jeral Sharma, a businessman from Sigatoka, secured the first-ever Sigatoka Electric Cooperate Golf amateur title at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course over the weekend. Sharma finished the tournament with a score of 76, winning after a playoff against Asish Chand, a teacher from Ba.
“I had a great outing, though it was somewhat challenging. I had to stay focused on my game,” Sharma commented after his victory. The overall net winner of the tournament was Sumith Perera with a score of 67, while veteran golfer Susie Yee claimed the ladies’ overall net title.
In the professional category, Taitusi Tuivuci emerged as the champion with a score of par 72. Tomasi Tuivuna, who leads the Fiji Order of Merit, finished just two shots behind with a score of 74. Tuivuna shared his feelings after the game, saying, “It was hard luck, but that’s just how it goes on the green on game day.”
Golf course manager Avinesh Datt highlighted the fantastic participation and the excellent weather that contributed to the event’s success. “I appreciate all the players for their commitment to the last tournament of the year,” he remarked.
Vijay Narayan, managing director of Sigatoka Electric Ltd, expressed satisfaction with the event’s turnout, promising that next year’s tournament will be even more exciting and better organized.
Other notable results included competitors in various grades, with standout performances such as Jay Meghi in A-grade and Surj Maharaj in B-grade.
This event not only showcased local talent but also fostered community spirit among players and supporters, setting a positive tone for future tournaments in the region. With plans for expansion in the upcoming year, the local golf community has much to look forward to.
