Jeral Sharma, a businessman from Sigatoka, clinched the inaugural Sigatoka Electric Corporate Golf amateur title over the weekend at the picturesque Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course. In a close contest, Sharma finished with a score of 76 after a playoff against Ba school teacher Asish Chand.

Reflecting on his performance, Sharma shared, “It was a great outing but a bit tough out there; I had to stick to the game.” The overall net winner was Sumith Perera with an impressive score of 67, while veteran golfer Susie Yee captured the ladies’ overall net title.

In the professional category, Taitusi Tuivuci emerged as the champion with a score of par 72, while Tomasi Tuivuna, the leader of the Fiji Order of Merit, finished closely behind with a score of 74. Tuivuna commented on his performance, saying, “It was hard luck, but that’s what it is in the game on the day.”

Golf course manager Avinesh Datt expressed satisfaction with the participation and attributed the success of the tournament to the excellent weather. He thanked players for their commitment to this last tournament of the year.

Vijay Narayan, managing director of Sigatoka Electric Ltd, also expressed pleasure with the event’s turnout, stating, “We can confirm that the event will be bigger and better next year.”

Additional results include achievements across various grades:

In the A-grade, Jay Meghi finished with 72, followed by Pravish Punja with 74. The B-grade saw Surj Maharaj score 75, with Sarvesh Devan and Mark Swamy following. In the C-grade, Matt Cauty scored 76, tying with Gopal Krishna and Mark Swamy.

Overall, the tournament not only showcased competitive golfing but also highlighted the strong community spirit surrounding the sport, promising a bright future for next year’s events.
