Jeral Sharma, a businessman from Sigatoka, captured the inaugural Sigatoka Electric Cooperate Golf amateur title on the weekend at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course. He played a solid round, finishing with a score of 76 after a tense play-off against Ba school teacher Asish Chand.
Reflecting on his performance, Sharma stated, “It was a great outing but a bit tough out there but I had to stick to the game.” The overall net score was claimed by Sumith Perera with an impressive 67, while veteran golfer Susie Yee took home the ladies’ overall net title.
In the professional category, Taitusi Tuivuci emerged as the champion after shooting a par 72. Fiji Order of Merit leader Tomasi Tuivuna finished two shots behind with a score of 74. Acknowledging the competition, Tuivuna commented, “It was hard luck I guess but that’s what it is in the green on game day.”
Golf course manager Avinesh Datt noted the excellent turnout and favorable weather, thanking the players for their participation in the year’s final tournament. Meanwhile, Sigatoka Electric Ltd managing director Vijay Narayan expressed satisfaction with the event’s success, announcing plans to make next year’s tournament even larger and more exciting.
In other tournament results, in the A-grade category, Jay Meghi led with a score of 72. In B-grade, Surj Maharaj performed strongly with a score of 75, and in C-grade, Matt Cauty secured the top position with a 76.
This event not only showcased golfing talent but also fostered a sense of community and enthusiasm among participants, setting a promising tone for future tournaments.
