A thriving bakery business is emerging in the communities, providing opportunities for local residents and contributing to economic development. Tevita Loga, a 56-year-old entrepreneur, runs a bakery named Three T’s located in Naruwai, Dama, Bua.
The bakery began operating just one month ago and has already gained popularity among community members in Dama, as all products are selling well. Tevita and his colleague have also been engaged in community service, planning to build a community bakery to support local residents.
“Our bakery business will primarily serve the Dama area and aims to meet the needs of neighboring villages,” Tevita explained. He noted a significant challenge in establishing the bakery due to the remote location, making it difficult for customers to access baked goods from surrounding communities.
There are approximately 130 families living in the area, and the bakery provides them with essential products that were previously a long drive away, as the nearest major markets are over 200 kilometers away. In the past three weeks, the business has seen impressive progress in sales as locals increasingly purchase their products, including bread, cream buns, cheese buns, pizza, coconut rolls, and cakes.
Tevita highlighted that the success of their business relies heavily on customer purchases and positive local engagement, noting that he has observed consistent demand for their goods over the last three weeks.
Efforts are ongoing to expand services to nearby markets, as the nearby Nabouwalu area lacks certain food options, including popular items like pizza. There are plans to establish a small site in Nabouwalu to better serve the local community.
Government support for small businesses is crucial, and Tevita encourages youth and community members to embrace entrepreneurial spirit and remain diligent in their work. He believes that collaboration within the community is essential for sustained growth and success.
