Nilesh Karan, a seasoned loan officer with the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF), is embarking on a new journey as he transitions to a career in law. At 47 years old, Karan recently graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Fiji, a noteworthy accomplishment that he achieved while juggling the responsibilities of work and family.
Karan’s decision to pursue law stemmed from his previous experience in the legal field, particularly in civil and litigation matters. Over his career spanning 19 years at SCGF, he gained invaluable insights that fueled his passion for legal practice. Before SCGF, he held a senior credit officer position at Carpenter Finance in Lautoka, and has previously worked in multiple law firms across Ba, Lautoka, and Nadi, as well as at the Housing Authority.
The academic pursuit took Karan seven years of hard work and perseverance, navigating the challenges of time management and family commitments. He emphasized the importance of creating a flexible study schedule that accommodated his lectures, study sessions, and work obligations. His structured approach to time management proved vital, especially during demanding periods like exams and assignment deadlines.
Karan expresses deep gratitude toward his support system, dedicating his achievement to his wife, children, family, and friends who provided encouragement throughout his journey. He noted that the organization he worked for demonstrated a strong commitment to employee growth, enabling him to balance his educational goals with his professional responsibilities.
Looking ahead, Karan plans to enroll in a postgraduate program and aims to be admitted to the bar, marking the next step in his legal career.
