The Blue Gas Lilian Amazon Women’s 7s team is gearing up for a demanding challenge as the highly anticipated Fiji Bitter Yasawa 7s tournament kicks off today at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Coming off a victory at the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s in Ra, the Lilian squad is aware of the formidable challenges that lie ahead.
Head coach Tirani Uluinakauvadra has expressed confidence in his team’s commitment to development, even in the face of adversity due to several key players being away with the national sevens team. “We have a young group of girls representing our club. While many experienced players are absent on national duty, our focus remains steadfast on their growth,” Uluinakauvadra stated. He added that the upcoming two days will be an opportunity for these young athletes to exhibit their skills.
Acknowledging the tough road ahead, he remarked, “We have a challenging battle, especially with some of our main players on national duty. However, we prioritize the opportunity for our girls to represent the country as the nation calls for their service.”
The Lilian team is placed in Pool B, where they will face tough competition from formidable teams such as Tagimoucia Ranadi and PC Kadavu Stallion, both known for their resilience and tactical gameplay.
In Pool A, the competition promises to be intense as the tournament favorites, Wardens Women, prepare to compete against Ezers Women and Yasawa Saints. Renowned for their impressive track record and experienced squad, Wardens Women are anticipated to be the frontrunners, but both Ezers Women and Yasawa Saints are eager to make their mark and create surprises.
The Lilian team’s journey reflects a broader positive narrative of nurturing young talent and maintaining a commitment to development within rugby, showcasing the spirit of sportsmanship and resilience. As the tournament progresses, fans and supporters will be eager to see how the young players step up to the challenge.
Overall, this event not only highlights the competitive nature of women’s rugby in the region but also the importance of supporting upcoming talent in the sport.
