Lilian Amazon Women’s 7s head coach Tirani Uluinakauvadra has voiced his immense pride in three exceptional players from his team who have been chosen to represent Fiji in the upcoming Dubai 7s tournament next week. The tournament will kick off next Friday and conclude on Sunday.

The selected players are 18-year-old Mere Vocevoce, who is likely the youngest member of the Fijiana squad, alongside 19-year-olds Kelerayani Luvu and Varanisese Qoro. Coach Uluinakauvadra praised their achievements, stating, “For our Lilian Amazon team, we are very proud to have three of our girls selected to represent Fiji at the Dubai 7s. Out of all the players in the squad, the youngest is from Lilian Amazon, with one 18-year-old and two 19-year-olds.”

He emphasized the importance of their development program, noting, “The Lilian Amazon team has started to reap the rewards of the investments and hard work we’ve put in over the last three years. We wish the girls all the best, and the entire Lilian family will be cheering them on when they play in Dubai.”

While the loss of three key players to national duties presents a challenge, Uluinakauvadra remains committed to the overarching goal of player development and national representation. He stated, “It affects us when we lose players, especially with our goal to win the local 7s series. But we’ve reset our objectives. When the nation calls, we prioritize the national team. Winning local tournaments is secondary to seeing our players wear the national jumper.”

This situation highlights the dedication of both the players and the coaching staff in fostering talent that can compete on the international stage. The focus on national representation and the commitment to developing young athletes is a positive strategy for the growth of women’s rugby in Fiji.

In summary, the Lilian Amazon team celebrates the selection of their young talents for the Dubai 7s, showcasing the success of their development program, while prioritizing national representation over local competition. This marks a hopeful moment not only for the players selected but for the future of women’s rugby in Fiji.
