The Blue Gas-sponsored Lilian Amazons are set to travel to Napier, New Zealand, to participate in the Duavata Sevens tournament this Saturday. Following this event, they will prepare for their first appearance at the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.
The Amazons have maintained an impressive winning streak, recently securing victory at the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui, where they triumphed over Fullsend with a score of 22-17 in the Cup final.
Team manager Mere Gaunavou remarked that this achievement signifies another milestone for the young squad. “Last year, the team won the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we have consistently performed well in local competitions,” she stated.
Just weeks prior, the Amazons claimed the Brimstone Sevens title by defeating the champion Seahawks, a team comprised of both current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou expressed gratitude to the team’s main sponsor, Blue Gas, along with associate sponsor Flame Tree, as well as their families and supporters for their continuous support. “The team’s success is built on a strong culture and rigorous training programs. Many of these girls are new to rugby, so it requires immense dedication and effective training to compete and win, regardless of their limited experience,” she added.
