Lilian Amazons Claim Triumph in Women’s Rugby Sevens!

The Lilian Amazon team has emerged victorious in the women’s category of the Fiji Sports Council under-20 sevens rugby tournament, defeating Senikakala Amazons with a score of 12-5 at Thomson Park in Navua. The tournament concluded its first leg yesterday, showcasing talent and determination among the players.

Advancing into the final, Lilian Amazons demonstrated skillful performance throughout the group and elimination stages of the one-day event. Coach Tihrani Uluinakauvadra expressed pride in the team’s accomplishment and highlighted their ambition to become the leading women’s rugby team in Fiji. “We’ve changed our goal this year. We want to be the best in Fiji, and we want to acknowledge God’s work within the team,” he remarked, underscoring the team’s focus on both achievement and spiritual guidance.

The team entered this tournament on a winning streak, having previously triumphed at the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s, the Brimstone 7s against the Seahawks, and two wins from the Duavata 7s in New Zealand. Uluinakauvadra noted that these victories underscored their commitment and readiness for this competition.

While the tournament specifically targeted U20 players, the inclusion of three senior players with a predominantly youthful lineup reflected the team’s ongoing development. Uluinakauvadra praised the players for their outstanding efforts on the field and their ability to execute the strategy successfully.
