Tirani Uluinakauvadra, the head coach of the Lilian Amazon Women’s 7s rugby team, has expressed immense pride in the selection of three of his players for the Fijiana team for the upcoming Dubai Sevens tournament. The event is scheduled to take place from next Friday to Sunday.
The selected players are Mere Vocevoce, who at just 18 years old is the youngest in the Fijiana squad, alongside 19-year-olds Kelerayani Luvu and Varanisese Qoro. Uluinakauvadra praised their accomplishment, stating, “For our Lilian Amazon team, we are very proud to have three of our girls selected to represent Fiji at the Dubai 7s. The youngest is from Lilian Amazon, with one 18-year-old and two 19-year-olds.”
He noted that this success is a testament to the investment and dedication that the team has committed over the past three years, saying, “The Lilian Amazon team has started to reap the rewards of the investments and hard work we’ve put in. We wish the girls all the best, and the entire Lilian family will be cheering them on in Dubai.”
While the loss of these key players presents challenges for the team, Uluinakauvadra emphasized that their commitment to player development and national representation remains a higher priority. “It affects us when we lose players, especially with our goal to win the local 7s series. But we’ve reset our objectives. When the nation calls, we prioritize the national team. Winning local tournaments is secondary to seeing our players wear the national jumper,” he explained.
This situation highlights the growth of young talents in rugby and serves as a hopeful reminder that success is not just about victories in local tournaments, but also about nurturing players who can represent their country on the international stage.
Summary: Tirani Uluinakauvadra, head coach of the Lilian Amazon Women’s 7s rugby team, is proud of three players selected for the Fijiana team for the Dubai Sevens. Despite the challenges of losing key players, Uluinakauvadra emphasizes the importance of player development and national representation over local tournament wins.
