Lilian Amazon Women’s 7s head coach Tirani Uluinakauvadra has expressed great pride in the selection of three players from his team for the upcoming Fijiana squad at the Dubai Sevens tournament, scheduled to take place next week from Friday to Sunday.
The selected players are 18-year-old Mere Vocevoce, who is likely the youngest in the Fijiana lineup, as well as 19-year-olds Kelerayani Luvu and Varanisese Qoro. Celebrating her birthday just two weeks ago, Luvu adds to the youthful excitement surrounding the team.
Uluinakauvadra congratulated the trio on their achievement, declaring, “For our Lilian Amazon team, we are incredibly proud to have three of our girls selected to represent Fiji at the Dubai 7s.” He pointed out that the youngest member of the squad comes from their team, emphasizing the significance of their development efforts.
Highlighting the hard work put into their development program over the past three years, he expressed hope for a successful performance in Dubai, stating, “We wish the girls all the best, and the entire Lilian family will be cheering them on when they play in Dubai.”
While acknowledging the challenges posed by the loss of these key players for local competitions, Uluinakauvadra reiterated their long-term focus on player development and representing their nation. “It affects us when we lose players, especially with our goal to win the local 7s series. But we’ve reset our objectives. When the nation calls, we prioritize the national team. Winning local tournaments is secondary to seeing our players wear the national jumper,” he explained.
This positive shift towards developing talent for national representation reflects the broader commitment to nurturing young athletes in Fiji, showcasing hope for the future of women’s rugby in the region.
In summary, the Lilian Amazon Women’s team is proud to send three of their players to represent Fiji at the Dubai Sevens, highlighting their commitment to player development while navigating the challenges of national duties.
