Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has reported a power supply disruption due to severe thunder and lightning activity in Monasavu, which resulted in a lightning strike on a transmission line. Acting Chief Operating Officer Bobby Naimawi confirmed that, at 6 am, both the 132,000 volts Wailoa to Cunningham Road in Suva and the Wailoa to Vuda in Lautoka transmission lines experienced tripping, effectively isolating electricity supply in parts of the Central and Western Divisions of Viti Levu.
Fortunately, Naimawi stated that EFL teams worked quickly to address the issue and successfully re-energized the main transmission line, with power supply being fully restored by 8:30 am.
This incident highlights the resilience and prompt response efforts of EFL in the face of adverse weather conditions. Such events remind us of the challenges in maintaining electrical infrastructure but also underscore the commitment of energy providers to restore services as quickly as possible. The swift restoration of power assures residents and businesses that they can rely on their energy supply even during difficult conditions.
