Energy Fiji Limited reported that a lightning strike disrupted power services early today at 6:00 am. Bobby Naimawi, the Chief Operating Officer of EFL, explained that the lightning caused the 132,000 volts transmission lines from Wailoa to Cunningham Road in Suva, as well as from Wailoa to Vuda in Lautoka, to trip, resulting in power outages affecting parts of the Central and Western Divisions of Viti Levu.

Fortunately, Naimawi confirmed that the team worked quickly to address the issue, reenergizing the main transmission line, and power was fully restored by 8:30 am. The lightning strike coincided with significant thunderstorm activity observed at Monasavu.

This situation underscores the resilience and efficiency of Energy Fiji Limited in swiftly tackling unforeseen challenges caused by natural phenomena. It serves as a reminder of the importance of having robust infrastructure that can withstand such events and the dedication of utility teams to restore services promptly.

In summary, while lightning can disrupt power supply, effective response measures are in place to minimize downtime and restore services quickly.
