Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, emphasized the importance of embracing the values of truth, justice, and righteousness during the celebration of Deepavali, also known as Diwali. In his festive message, he urged individuals to recognize the freedom and rights restored by the Coalition Government following the elections in December 2022, stressing that these freedoms should never be taken for granted.

Drawing parallels from the epic story of Lord Ram, Professor Prasad highlighted how Ram’s return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile symbolizes a government dedicated to transparency, accountability, and the welfare of its people. He reflected on Lord Ram’s leadership qualities, which included overcoming tremendous challenges in a quest for lasting peace and prosperity.

In his remarks, Professor Prasad acknowledged that the Coalition Government has faced challenges in its journey to restore the nation’s moral compass after years of dictatorship. However, he affirmed that a focus on the common good, exemplifying selflessness and long-term solutions, is central to the government’s mission.

He invoked the imagery of the diyas that illuminated Ram’s path back to Ayodhya, interpreting them as symbols of hope and guidance. Professor Prasad reiterated that the Coalition Government is committed to prioritizing meaningful solutions that enhance the lives of citizens, engaging in dialogue to foster consensus for the nation’s advancement.

This message of hope and moral integrity serves as a reminder that the principles of Diwali extend beyond celebration, encouraging individuals and leaders alike to embody the values of sacrifice and community welfare, ultimately leading to a brighter future for Fiji.
