If you’re still uncertain about what to buy for Christmas, consider visiting the Deo sisters at the MSME Festive Market currently taking place at the Civic Centre Car Park in Suva. Mahima and Suhani Deo are showcasing their delightful assortment of homemade candles and artwork, perfect for holiday gifts or enhancing your home décor.

“Our candles are made from 100 percent soy wax, with a touch of gel wax added for variety. Each one is fragrant and scented,” shared Mahima. They offer a range of designs that celebrate Fiji’s island heritage, along with special themed candles inspired by desserts, as well as body candles and sweet treats for everyone to enjoy.

The sisters launched their business, Alora Fiji, in 2021, driven by passion and a desire to provide for their family. Mahima, who also supports a family member at a restaurant, returned to Fiji from the US following the death of their father. “I had to come back as the oldest in the family. I believe that Fiji is missing out on many things, especially with the rising costs and new VAT increases. I hope to bring in affordable and accessible decorative items for everyone,” she explained.

The hardworking Deo sisters not only offer beautiful products but also emphasize community empowerment and accessibility through their entrepreneurial efforts.

In these challenging economic times, it’s heartening to see young entrepreneurs like the Deo sisters finding ways to innovate and contribute to their communities while following their passions.

This article highlights the resilience and creativity of individuals supporting their families and preserving local culture through their crafts, becoming beacons of hope in their communities.
