Edward Nand and Salimoni Lagicere have received mandatory life sentences for the murder of Narend Chand, a Fiji-born Canadian national. The sentencing occurred in Suva before Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull. While Lagicere is eligible for a pardon after serving 16 years, Nand must serve 18 years before such consideration.
The court process revealed that the two men had plotted to rob Chand, luring him to Fiji under the guise of meeting a woman he thought he had connected with online. This woman was ultimately discovered to be a fictional character controlled by one of the accused. Following the deception, Chand’s body was tragically recovered from the Waimaro River near Waito Settlement.
Prosecutor Zenith Zunaid presented a compelling argument against Nand and Lagicere, which illustrated the grave dangers posed by online fraud. Despite various defenses put forward by both men’s lawyers, the evidence indicated a careful, premeditated scheme.
