A 46-year-old Chinese national has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 20 years for the attempted murder of another man. Bi Baodang, who has a young daughter in China, was convicted and sentenced by Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu following an incident that took place on August 2, 2022.

According to court documents, the victim, Qu Guang Qing, was driving home after leaving the wharf at Walu Bay, Suva, when Baodang suddenly appeared from behind the back seat. Baodang confronted Mr. Qu, accusing him of mistreatment, and brandished a knife before stabbing him in the chest.

A medical report revealed that the stab wound sustained by Mr. Qu was potentially life-threatening and likely caused by a sharp knife.
