A 46-year-old Chinese national has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 20 years for the attempted murder of another man. Bi Baodang, who is married with a young daughter in China, received his conviction and sentencing from Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu last Friday for an incident that took place on August 2, 2022.
Court documents reveal that the victim, Qu Guang Qing, was driving home after leaving the wharf at Walu Bay, Suva, when Baodang unexpectedly appeared from the back seat. He confronted Mr. Qu, accusing him of not treating him well, while brandishing a knife in front of him before ultimately stabbing him in the chest.
A medical report indicated that the stabbing wound sustained by Mr. Qu was potentially life-threatening and likely caused by a sharp knife.
