Levuka Town is setting a new standard for the residents of Ovalau Island and the Lomaiviti Group with the establishment of its new municipal market, which was inaugurated last Friday by the Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa. This market is designed to serve the communities of Ovalau, Moturiki, and the wider Lomaiviti Group.

In his opening remarks, Minister Nalumisa expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the market’s construction and highlighted the economic potential it brings, noting, “It’s a market, busy with a lot of people and will generate income for market vendors.”

As part of the market’s development, the ministry also delivered a nine-ton truck to assist vendors with fish deliveries and other services in the town. The government invested $180,000 in this essential vehicle. Minister Nalumisa encouraged the community to take ownership of the new market and to take pride in it, stating, “You have one of the best markets around Fiji. Support one another and embrace the opportunities that this new facility will bring.”

This new market is not only a significant development for the area but also presents a chance for local entrepreneurs to thrive and for the community to come together.

In summary, Levuka’s new municipal market serves as a catalyst for economic growth and community unity. The government’s investment and support underline the potential benefits this facility can bring to the residents of Ovalau and nearby islands, fostering a spirit of cooperation and local pride.
