The market was inaugurated last Friday by Maciu Nalumisa, the Minister for Housing and Local Government. Minister Nalumisa expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the construction of the new market, highlighting its importance as a vibrant hub for community engagement and economic activity. “It’s a market, busy with a lot of people, and will generate income for market vendors,” he remarked.
In a move to further support local vendors, the ministry also delivered a nine-ton truck, fully funded by the government at a cost of $180,000, to assist with fish deliveries and other services in the area. The minister encouraged the community to take ownership of the market, emphasizing its status as one of the best in Fiji. He urged residents to take pride in their town and support one another, welcoming the opportunities that this new facility will bring.
This development represents a hopeful step towards bolstering local economies and fostering community spirit in the region.
