Levuka has proudly inaugurated a new Peace Garden, a collaborative effort between the University of Fiji and the University of Bradford. This garden is situated at the historic site of the Masonic Lodge, which was built in 1913 and suffered extensive damage due to an arson attack in 2000.

The ceremony marking the opening of the Peace Garden was led by Ben Naidu, the Chairperson of the Levuka Town Council Board. Dr. Erica Myers-Davis, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) Oceania, emphasized the significance of this partnership among various institutions. She stated that it highlights how collaboration across different sectors can create initiatives that have meaningful local and global repercussions. “The Peace Garden stands as a testament to the power of bringing people and ideas together to foster change,” she remarked.

In addition to the opening of the Peace Garden, the University of Fiji has established an office in Levuka. This new facility aims to offer support to local students and provide educational opportunities for the residents of Ovalau and Moturiki.

This development not only revitalizes a historical site but also fosters community spirit and educational growth in the region, paving the way for a brighter future for the local populace. Through collaborative efforts, positive change is possible, demonstrating the profound impact that education and partnership can have on communities.
