A promising talent has emerged in the long-distance running scene at Lelean Memorial School, as Year-13 student Maciu Koroi showcased his abilities in the 800 meters during the school’s inter-house competition held at the HFC Bank Stadium. This event marked Koroi’s debut in the longer distance, following a history of competing in short-distance races, specifically the 100 meters and 200 meters.
After facing challenges in achieving his desired results in shorter events, Koroi decided to explore his stamina by entering the 800 meters. His decision proved fruitful, as he dominated the heats and secured first place, making a significant impression ahead of the upcoming Triple N Athletics zone meet.
In an interesting twist, Koroi managed to excel without the usual training facilities available to many of his peers, as a day scholar who trains at home. “I train from home, balancing discipline and determination to prepare myself for the competition,” Koroi explained. His efforts and dedication have not gone unnoticed, as he now aims to strengthen his performance further at the Triple N Zone, with aspirations of qualifying for هذا year’s Fiji Finals.
Koroi has set ambitious goals for himself, expressing a strong desire to win gold at the Triple N zone meet and to make an impactful presence at the Coca-Cola games. He emphasized the importance of support from his friends, teachers, coaches, and family in his journey, acknowledging their role in motivating him to pursue his athletic aspirations. As he prepares for these key competitions, Koroi’s determination and resilience set him apart as a remarkable student-athlete to watch in the future.
