The case involving former Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, Kalaveti Ravu, and the ministry’s regional northern manager, Tekata Toaisi, was postponed by the Magistrate’s Court on the previous day. The court, presided over by Suva Magistrate Jeremaia Savou, was not in session, leading to the adjournment of all scheduled matters.

In a prior court appearance, Ravu requested permission to travel abroad as part of a delegation of six parliamentarians visiting China this month. The prosecution has been instructed to respond to his request for the return of his travel documents.

Ravu faces allegations of obstructing a legal inquiry related to the suspected illegal trade of a prohibited species of beche-de-mer, while Toaisi is charged with assisting Ravu in this misconduct between July and August of the previous year. The charges have been brought forward by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Ravu is represented by Lavi Rokoika, while Toaisi’s legal counsel is Joji Cakau. Both individuals are currently out on bail and are set to appear in court again on Monday.
