Former Magistrate and accomplished legal professional Aruna Prasad has been appointed to the Board of the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), as announced by the Minister for Finance in accordance with Section 7(1) of the FNPF Act. Her tenure is set to commence in June 2025.
With over 40 years of extensive experience in law and governance, Ms. Prasad is a prominent figure within Fiji’s legal community. Her career trajectory includes significant roles in private practice, public prosecution, and the judiciary, equipping her with a comprehensive understanding of the legal landscape in Fiji.
Ms. Prasad earned her Law Degree from Victoria University of Wellington and has been admitted to the Bar in New Zealand, Fiji, and Australia. Her remarkable career includes positions such as Principal Legal Officer at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Magistrate within the Fijian Judiciary, and Director of the Legal Aid Commission. Additionally, her experience as a judicial officer for the Tax, VAT, and ALTO Tribunals further enhances her expertise in regulatory systems and compliance.
Her appointment is anticipated to strengthen the FNPF Board’s ability to make strategic decisions and uphold oversight. This move underscores the Fund’s dedication to maintaining high standards of governance while safeguarding the retirement savings of its members. With Ms. Prasad’s wealth of knowledge and experience, the FNPF is well-positioned to continue its mission of securing the financial futures of its members.
