Matilda Simpson has been appointed as the head girl of Suva Grammar School, marking a significant step in her leadership journey. Matilda, who is seen as a determined and inspiring leader, follows the family legacy of leadership, as her father and brother previously held notable positions at the school. Her father served as head boy in 1995, and her brother held the same role in 2020, creating a meaningful legacy of leadership that Matilda is proud to continue.

In her new role, Matilda expressed her gratitude and pride, stating, “Getting this role is a privilege for me, it’s an honour.” She emphasized that mutual respect would be fundamental to her leadership approach, advocating for a culture of respect between seniors and juniors within the school’s community. “Seeing each other for the humans that we are and having consideration for one another,” she articulated, underlining the importance of kindness and integrity in her leadership.

Her counterpart, Inoke Rabukawaqa, has also been appointed as head boy. Both leaders aim to prioritize issues such as bullying during their tenure, with Inoke advocating for unity, respect, and love among students. Together, they represent a new generation of leaders determined to inspire their peers while enhancing the school environment.

The appointment ceremony was attended by Education Minister Aseri Radrodro, who praised the significance of these leadership roles and the impact they can have on fostering a positive school culture.

Similar stories from across Fiji highlight the growing trend of young leaders stepping up in their schools, emphasizing themes of resilience and community support. For instance, students from other schools, like Miriama Watikili and Mesake Cokanauto from All Saints Secondary School, have also taken on leadership roles, exemplifying how ambition and dedication can lead to impactful changes within educational environments.

The combination of Matilda and Inoke’s leadership promises to not only uphold the traditions of Suva Grammar School but also pave the way for a progressive and respectful school culture. Their commitment serves as a beacon of hope for fellow students and embodies the potential for positive change driven by dedicated young leaders.
