The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced a significant reshuffle involving three key Permanent Secretaries within the Fijian government, which will take effect on February 3, 2025. This change is part of an ongoing effort to enhance leadership capabilities across essential ministries and has been confirmed with the agreement of the Prime Minister.
Dr. Raijeli Taga, currently the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will transition to the role of Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs. Her successor, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, who has been overseeing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will take over her position at the Office of the Prime Minister. In addition to his new responsibilities, Dr. Korovavala will serve as the Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration and will report directly to the Minister of Immigration.
Meanwhile, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, the current Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, has recently expanded his role by also acting as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing since January 14, 2025.
PSC Chairman Luke Rokovada highlighted that these strategic leadership changes aim to optimize management capabilities within the government, ensuring that ministries are headed by qualified individuals. This restructuring reflects a commitment to improving governance, enhancing accountability, and better meeting the public’s needs.
These transitions signify a proactive approach by the government to strengthen its administrative framework, promoting local talent and fostering an environment of innovation and growth. By placing experienced leaders in pivotal positions, the government is poised to tackle the challenges ahead while paving the way for improved public service delivery.
In summary, this reshuffle is not just about changing personnel but also represents a broader vision for a more responsive and effective governance structure in Fiji. The hope is that these new leadership dynamics will lead to enhanced operational efficiency and a brighter future for public administration in the country.
