Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down as president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation during an executive council meeting of the party last week.
The 70-year-old leader cited two primary reasons for his decision. First, he mentioned that he had fulfilled his commitment to the party’s formation, specifically in successfully challenging the FijiFirst party. He considered this a significant achievement of his leadership.
Secondly, Ratu Vuniyani expressed the need to prioritize his health and personal life, stating that he did not want to bear the pressures of both the presidency and his chief role in Nadi. He has chosen to concentrate solely on his responsibilities as Tui Nadi and believes it is the appropriate time to hand over leadership to someone else.
Addressing rumors regarding disagreements about certain procedures, he clarified that these were unfounded. He extended his gratitude to the party, its members, and his supporters.
Currently, the vice-president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, is serving as the acting president.
