Leadership Shakeup: PA Party Names New Deputy Amid Controversy

The People’s Alliance (PA) party has appointed Ro Filipe Tuisawau as one of its new deputy leaders, succeeding Lynda Tabuya, who was dismissed from the position in March. Tabuya’s removal was associated with a complaint regarding her alleged involvement in an extramarital affair and a drug scandal during a government trip to the Parliament of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, last year. On Wednesday, September 25, the party’s acting secretary, Sila Balawa, announced that the appointment of Ro Filipe as deputy leader was approved by the party’s executive committee.

Ro Filipe is currently serving as the Minister for Public Works, Transport, and Meteorological Services, as well as the Leader of Government Business in Parliament. He previously held the role of Opposition Whip from 2018 to 2022 under the previous administration.
