The Public Service Commission (PSC) has confirmed a reshuffle of several Permanent Secretaries, with changes made in conjunction with the Prime Minister. According to PSC Chairman Luke Rokovada, this initiative aims to enhance leadership capabilities across essential ministries.
Effective February 3rd, 2025, Dr. Raijeli Taga, currently the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, will transition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, who presently serves as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will take over Dr. Taga’s position at the Office of the Prime Minister. Additionally, Dr. Korovavala will step in as the Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration, reporting to the Minister of Immigration.
In another development, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, who serves as the Permanent Secretary for Housing, has taken on extra duties as the Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing as of January 14th, 2025.
This reshuffle of leadership roles is a continuation of the government’s efforts to optimize the management of crucial sectors, reflecting a strong commitment to efficiency and effectiveness in public service.
Similar to previous articles highlighting the PSC’s focus on appointing leaders based on their proven success and understanding of their respective roles, the recent changes reaffirm the importance of having qualified professionals guiding the nation’s ministries. The emphasis on local talent remains pivotal in shaping a competent civil service in Fiji.
Overall, these transitions present an opportunity for innovation and progress within the government, fostering robust leadership at a critical time for the nation’s development. This hopeful recalibration of roles suggests that the government is poised to address the challenges ahead with renewed vigor and established expertise.
