Leadership Shake-Up: Tui Nadi Steps Down as Party President

Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has announced his resignation as the president of the People’s Alliance party. He made this confirmation yesterday, stating that he officially stepped down during the party’s executive council meeting held last week.

At the age of 70, Ratu Vuniyani cited two primary reasons for his resignation. He expressed that he had fulfilled his commitment in establishing the party, particularly in its goal to challenge and defeat the FijiFirst party, an effort he deemed successful.

He also mentioned the importance of prioritizing his health and personal life, stating, “I don’t want to take both the pressure of these two leaderships of being president and the chiefly role of Nadi.” He emphasized his decision to focus solely on his role as Tui Nadi and feels it is the appropriate time to pass the leadership responsibilities to someone else.

Addressing rumors about disagreements regarding certain procedures, he clarified that such claims were inaccurate. Ratu Vuniyani extended his gratitude to the party, its members, and his supporters. He noted that vice-president Ratu Josefa Dimuri is currently stepping in as the acting president.
