The Board of the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) has confirmed that Dr. Hasmukh Lal, the Chief Executive Officer, will conclude his tenure on July 14, 2025. Dr. Lal resigned on May 1, and the Board has expressed its sincere appreciation for his valuable contributions to enhancing access to tertiary education across Fiji.

In his farewell remarks, Dr. Lal stated, “It has been an honour to lead TSLS towards transformation and growth. I am grateful to the Government, Board, staff, and partners for their support throughout my tenure.” He emphasized that he departs with confidence, knowing that TSLS is poised to continue its mission of operational excellence in service to the Fijian people.

Dr. Lal’s leadership has coincided with various significant advancements within TSLS, such as improved scholarship accessibility and a focus on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). As per previous reports, the organization has been proactive in increasing awareness around scholarship programs, especially in rural and maritime areas, leading to soaring application numbers and a notable rise in female participation in educational programs.

The initiatives driven under Dr. Lal’s leadership reflect a broader commitment from the Fijian government to invest in educational infrastructure, help address skills shortages in the workforce, and ensure equitable access to education for all students, regardless of their socio-economic background. This legacy of inclusivity and support is likely to continue as TSLS adapts to meet the evolving education landscape in Fiji and strengthens pathways for students to succeed.

The upcoming transition at TSLS signifies not just a leadership change but also an opportunity to continue fostering educational growth and improving access to academic resources for future generations in Fiji.
