Ratu Josaia Niudamu, the chief and Assistant Minister for Justice, emphasized the necessity for leaders in the Ra province to engage in direct yet respectful communication. Speaking at the Ra Provincial Council meeting in Nanukuloa, he reflected on the challenges posed by modern technology, suggesting that the increasing screen time dedicated to phones and TVs is detracting from valuable interpersonal interactions and observations within families.

Highlighting the importance of communal ties, Ratu Niudamu noted that the province has successful enterprises like Fiji Water and Seascape, urging leaders to identify further opportunities for unity and progress, akin to the phoenix symbolizing renewal.

He also raised concerns about the pervasive issues of drug use and its impact on the community’s youth, with the alarming rise in HIV cases among them. Ratu Niudamu called upon community leaders to stay vigilant, especially regarding the environments and conversations influencing the younger generation. He urged a commitment to guide children towards lives filled with respect, love, and honest work.

The echoes of concern expressed by Ratu Niudamu resonate with previous discussions in the region about the drug crisis, including comments from President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere and other leaders who have called for unity and cultural reinforcement to tackle such social challenges.

Ratu Niudamu’s message promotes the importance of traditional values and the role of community engagement in addressing contemporary issues, encapsulating a hopeful outlook for collective healing and strengthening of youth through guidance and opportunities for personal growth.
