Lawyer Seeks Delay in Military Finance Officer’s Abuse of Office Case

The attorney representing a former military finance officer facing two counts of abuse of office has requested a one-month delay to review the disclosures. Sarika Devi Raj appeared before Suva magistrate Pulekeria Low earlier this week. She is charged with not declaring her ownership of Maleka Investment, a company that is a registered vendor for the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, and allegedly profited $182,404.99 from this oversight. On August 26, her lawyer, Mohammed Saneem, confirmed receipt of the second phase of disclosures. However, he requested additional time to comprehensively assess the extensive materials provided. Ms. Raj is scheduled to have her plea recorded on September 27.
