Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu expressed significant concerns about the public’s disregard for law and order, particularly during the festive season. He noted that this period has brought unique challenges that complicate police operations.

Driu pointed out that not only has there been a rise in crime on the streets, but criminal activities have also increasingly migrated to the online realm. One notable issue he highlighted is the prevalence of scams, specifically mentioning the MPAiSA scam that has gained traction on social media platforms.

In response to these challenges, Driu stated that the police have committed substantial resources and manpower to tackling white-collar crimes, particularly in urban areas such as Suva, Nadi, and Lautoka. He acknowledged that the investigation of these crimes demands a significant portion of their resources, with police personnel working around the clock to address these issues.

To maintain community safety, Driu assured the public that police visibility would be reinforced, ensuring thorough coverage across all divisions.

This article highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement during a busy festive season but also reflects the commitment of the police to adapt and respond to emerging crime trends. It’s a call for public cooperation and respect for the law, emphasizing that everyone’s support is crucial in maintaining a safe environment. The ongoing dedication of the police to protect the community is commendable and reflects a hopeful outlook for improved public safety.
