Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu has expressed concerns regarding the declining respect for law and order, especially during the festive season. He noted that this time of year has produced increased challenges for police operations, with a notable rise in criminal activity both on land and online.
Driu pointed out that social media has become a platform for various scams, particularly the MPAiSA scam, which has gained traction. In response, the police have allocated significant resources and manpower to investigate these white-collar crimes, especially in key areas like Suva, Nadi, and Lautoka. Driu emphasized that these investigations are consuming a large portion of their resources, yet they remain dedicated to addressing these issues around the clock.
Despite the challenges, Driu reassured the public that police visibility will be maintained across all divisions, ensuring a comprehensive coverage during this busy period.
This situation highlights the urgent need for community cooperation and awareness in preventing crime. By working together, the police and the public can foster a safer environment, especially during the festive season when people are most vulnerable. It is an opportunity for community engagement and promoting awareness about the importance of safety and security.
