Lautoka Set to Ignite Basketball Passion in 2024 Championship

Lautoka has been chosen to host the 2024 Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Championship, a decision announced at the launch event held at the Lautoka City Council Chambers.

Prashant Prasad, Senior Business Relationship Manager for Vodafone’s Western & Northern Region, expressed the company’s pride in supporting the Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Nationals for the second year in a row.

As the tournament commences, Prasad highlighted the excitement surrounding the upcoming games, acknowledging the challenges teams will face on their path to victory. He encouraged participants to embrace their status as champions and anticipated showcasing the determination, skill, and sportsmanship of each team on the court. This year’s event will feature over 50 competing teams, and new schools are welcomed to join.

Prasad urged the student-athletes to remember that their hard work has led them to this point, encouraging them to play with passion, respect, and integrity.

Lautoka City Council CEO Mohammed Anees Khan also expressed enthusiasm for hosting the event for the second consecutive year.

The tournament is expected to have 70 schools competing over three days, involving more than 800 students. Notably, Lautoka Muslim College will debut its Under 19 boys’ team, while traditional competitors such as Ratu Kadavulevu School, Sacred Heart College, and Votualevu College will return.

The championship is scheduled for August 29-31.
