Lautoka clinched the top spot in Group A of the 2024 Extra Supermarket Futsal Inter-District Championship held at the Vodafone Arena today, defeating Lami with a score of 5-3, which secured them a place in the semifinals.
From the outset, Lautoka maintained control of the game, preventing their opponents from gaining any ground. Head Coach Waseem Kutty expressed confidence in his team’s ability to perform under pressure, despite the challenges faced in recent matches.
“Congratulations to Lami for a well-played game; they really pushed us,” Kutty acknowledged. “We entered this match knowing that victory was our only option.”
He reflected on the team’s demanding schedule, having played three tough games in a row, starting with Labasa and Nadi before facing Lami. “Fortunately, the boys have recovered well,” he added.
Looking ahead, Kutty stated that the team is prepared to take on any opponent that emerges from either Suva, Nasinu, or Ba in the next round.
This win not only highlights Lautoka’s determination and skill but also sets a positive tone as they advance in the tournament. The team’s resilience and strategic approach to the game could serve them well in the upcoming semifinal, as they continue their pursuit of the championship title.
