The Lautoka Rugby Union successfully launched its 2025 franchise competition last Saturday at Nadovu Park, showcasing a range of emerging talents that promise a competitive season ahead. Head coach Penioni Ranitu expressed his satisfaction with the players’ performance during the opening round, highlighting the impressive skill and passion displayed on the field.
“We had a great start with Round One of the franchise competition at Nadovu Park, and we were truly amazed by the raw talent shining through,” Ranitu noted. “We are excited for the upcoming season.”
The franchise competition, which is set to run over seven weeks, is crucial for identifying and nurturing new talent for the Lautoka squad. Although the team retains several key players from the previous season, Coach Ranitu emphasized the importance of integrating fresh faces to strengthen the lineup.
“We’ve identified some exceptional players during this competition, which we aim to develop further within our system,” he stated. Pre-season training is scheduled to commence next week for the selected squad, marking the beginning of preparations for the 2025 domestic rugby campaign.
In the context of previous achievements, Lautoka Rugby Union is building on its recent success in the 2024 season, where they won the Farebrother Sullivan Trophy after a 21-year wait and demonstrated their competitive spirit against established teams. This season brings renewed hopes as the team aspires to leverage its improvements with a strategic focus on talent development and stronger performance.
Additionally, the Lautoka Rugby Union is committed to cultivating a vibrant rugby environment in the Sugar City, which not only enhances the team’s competitiveness but also aims to inspire the local community and young players.
With this renewed focus on talent cultivation and competitive readiness, the Lautoka Rugby Union is set to make a significant impact in the 2025 season, promising thrilling matches and a celebration of rugby in the region.
