“Lautoka Police Officer Facing Drug Possession Charges: What Happened?”

A police officer from the Lautoka Police Station will appear at the Lautoka Magistrates Court on charges of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew reported that the officer was stopped by a patrol team in Natabua on Tuesday after displaying suspicious behavior, leading to a search of his vehicle.

Two clear plastic bags containing white substances, suspected to be drugs, were found. The Criminal Investigations Department’s Major Crime Unit was dispatched to Lautoka to investigate, and the substances were confirmed to be methamphetamine and cocaine.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in Lautoka provided independent legal advice, and following this, the charges were officially sanctioned. The officer faces two counts of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

Acting Commissioner Chew stated that while legal proceedings are ongoing, the officer will be suspended with half pay after using up his leave.

Chew reaffirmed the Fiji Police’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, ensuring accountability among its officers.
