Lautoka Muslim College Overhauls Awards Criteria to Boost Subject-Specific Excellence

Lautoka Muslim College has revamped its awards criteria to enhance academic excellence and promote fairness at its annual prize-giving ceremony. Principal Aiyaz Ali announced this significant change, stating that the school has abandoned the traditional aggregate prize system that recognized the top three students alongside the most improved student.

Mr. Ali explained that while the previous system had its merits, it no longer reflects contemporary educational standards or fosters the competitive spirit desired within the institution. He emphasized that the newly implemented standardized awards criteria aims to focus on subject-specific achievements, establish clear academic benchmarks, and provide consistent recognition for student performance. This approach is designed to encourage students to strive for higher levels of academic excellence.

The revised system was communicated effectively to students, parents, and guardians through various newsletters, ensuring that all stakeholders are aware of the changes.

Mohammed Hanif, managing director of M Hanif Industries Ltd, was the chief guest at the ceremony. He encouraged students to maintain a positive mindset, especially those who did not receive awards. “Remember that success has many facets,” he stated. “While awards are important, they do not solely define your potential. Your attitude, determination, and perseverance are what truly matter.”

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the dux award, which was achieved by Summayyah Sadiyah, who excelled with a score of 380 out of 400 in internal examinations. This recognition is a testament to her hard work and commitment to academic success, and serves as an inspiration for her peers.

This shift in approach not only aligns with modern educational practices but also aims to cultivate a more inclusive environment that recognizes the diverse strengths of every student. Through transparent and fair evaluation, Lautoka Muslim College is setting a precedent for academic recognition, promising a brighter future for its students.
