The Sugar Industry Tribunal has announced that the Lautoka mill of the Fiji Sugar Corporation will halt crushing operations on Monday, October 7, for the 2024 season. Tribunal member Semi Leweniqila issued the directive following consultations with the Sugar Cane Growers Council CEO and the FSC CEO.
In his announcement, Leweniqila urged all growers and harvesting teams in the Lautoka Mill region to ensure that all sugarcane is harvested and delivered to the mill by Sunday, October 6. The Lautoka mill commenced its crushing season on June 5.
No reason was given for the early cessation of crushing, while the previous season saw operations concluding on November 19.
