A woman and three men faced charges in Lautoka Magistrate’s Court related to the alleged kidnapping of a 20-year-old woman in Saweni last month. Artika Sharma, Ajay Kumar, Ravinal Ravinesh Anand, and Sanjay Kumar appeared before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa.

The court heard that on the morning of February 25, the four individuals forcefully removed the victim from her home during an argument. Reports indicate Ms. Sharma allegedly compelled the victim into her vehicle while the other three accused assaulted a relative of the victim who attempted to intervene. The victim sustained injuries when she managed to jump out of the car.

Ms. Sharma is charged with one count of kidnapping, one count of damaging property, and one count of acting with intent to cause grievous harm. Meanwhile, Ajay Kumar, Ravinal Ravinesh Anand, and Sanjay Kumar each face charges of one count of kidnapping, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one count of criminal intimidation.

Magistrate Boseiwaqa has decided to transfer the case to the High Court in Lautoka, with all four accused being remanded in custody. The matter is scheduled for a further court appearance on March 9. The legal proceedings highlight the ongoing issues surrounding violence and crime in the region.
