The Lautoka Hospital Children’s Ward has undergone a remarkable transformation thanks to the collaborative efforts of the FIJI Water Foundation, FIJI Water, Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL), and Aspen Medical.

As part of their Wonderful Neighbour Project, teams from FIJI Water Fleet and NPDL Naikabula approached the hospital with the intention of enhancing healthcare services in the Western Division. This initiative encourages FIJI Water and NPDL employees to suggest and carry out significant community projects, with each participant receiving FJ$100 and eight paid working hours to make a difference. This not only fosters a closer connection between these organizations and the communities they serve but also empowers employees to take an active role in community improvement.

Gavin Whiteside, CEO of Aspen Medical in Fiji, expressed his gratitude, noting, “We are very happy to have the support of the community we work in. The work done at the Children’s Ward by the FIJI Water Foundation will benefit many families for years to come.”

The overhaul of the Children’s Ward included refreshing the waiting area and improving restroom facilities. Additionally, the donations comprised a new washing machine and dryer, as well as the installation of a swing set and four tricycles for the children. The team undertook extensive renovations, which involved water blasting, painting, tiling, installing new doors and louvers, as well as landscaping tasks like planting and grass cutting. In total, 120 employees devoted their time and skills over three days to these projects.

Semi Lotawa, Director of the FIJI Water Foundation, highlighted the broader impact of the Wonderful Neighbour initiative, revealing that this year alone, 798 employees participated in 21 projects throughout Fiji, contributing more than 4,500 volunteer hours. “Our latest effort to support the Lautoka Hospital Children’s ward underscores the FIJI Water Foundation’s commitment to positive change, community pride, and a sustainable future for Fiji,” he remarked.

This initiative illustrates the powerful impact that community involvement and corporate responsibility can have on local healthcare facilities. With such efforts, there is hope that more collaborations will emerge, further enhancing the lives of families in need.
