The Children’s Ward at Lautoka Hospital has undergone a significant refurbishment thanks to the collaborative efforts of FIJI Water Foundation, FIJI Water, Neptune Pacific Direct Line (NPDL), and Aspen Medical. As part of their Wonderful Neighbour Project, the teams from FIJI Water Fleet and NPDL Naikabula initiated this project aimed at enhancing healthcare in the Western Division.

The Wonderful Neighbour initiative allows FIJI Water and NPDL employees to propose and carry out impactful projects in their communities, with each participant receiving FJ$100 and eight paid working hours. This not only strengthens relationships between the companies and the communities they serve but also fosters a spirit of collective involvement.

Gavin Whiteside, the Chief Executive Officer of Aspen Medical in Fiji, expressed gratitude for the community’s support, emphasizing that the renovations at the Children’s Ward will provide lasting benefits for many families.

The project included revitalizing the Ward’s waiting area, upgrading restroom facilities, and adding essential equipment such as a new washing machine and dryer. Additionally, a swing set and four tricycles were donated for the children’s enjoyment. The participating employees engaged in various tasks over three days, including water blasting, painting, tiling, and landscaping, with a total of 120 employees contributing to the effort.

Semi Lotawa, Director of the FIJI Water Foundation, highlighted that this year alone, 798 employees participated in 21 Wonderful Neighbour projects across Fiji, dedicating over 4,500 volunteer hours to community service. Lotawa reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to fostering positive change, enhancing community pride, and promoting a sustainable future for Fiji.

This uplifting initiative not only improves the facilities at Lautoka Hospital but also creates a strong sense of community, showcasing the power of collaboration to bring about positive change in the lives of many.

Overall, the active involvement of local organizations in community projects demonstrates a commendable commitment to improving healthcare and the well-being of children in Fiji, inspiring hope for a healthier future.
