A staff member at the Criminal Registry of the Lautoka High Court has been charged following a break-in at the court last week. The 31-year-old accused faces a charge of Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, as confirmed by police. He is alleged to have conspired with others to gain unauthorized access to the High Court building with the intent to steal various items, including cash and court exhibits.

Reports indicate that the theft involved cash amounting to approximately $50,000, encompassing both local and foreign currency. The accused was presented in court and is currently remanded at the Natabua Remand Centre, with a bail decision anticipated today. Meanwhile, law enforcement continues to investigate, searching for additional individuals involved in the burglary, whose identities have already been established by the authorities.

This incident raises concerns about security in legal institutions and emphasizes the need for improved protective measures. The police’s ongoing investigation aims to bring all responsible parties to justice, reinforcing the integrity of the judicial system.
