Lautoka Football Club is preparing for the highly anticipated FMF Inter District Championship (IDC), which will be held from October 15 to 20. After an impressive season, having won both the Fiji FACT and the Battle of the Giants tournaments, the team is determined to end the year on a strong note.
Club president Shalendra Prasad indicated that the team is working diligently to bring back former Lautoka goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqara for the championship, but no confirmations have been made yet. “Beniamino is the only player we are trying to get because he is a former Lautoka player, but we can’t confirm anything,” Prasad stated.
This move aims to bolster their squad in preparation for the competitive tournament. When queried about the status of James Hoyt, Prasad simply replied, “Nothing on Hoyt.”
The team’s primary focus remains on optimizing their current roster before any final decisions are made. Prasad also mentioned that the final 22-member squad would be announced on Monday. “We will wait for our final 22 squad to be released, then I can make further comment,” he explained.
As the hosts for this year’s IDC, Lautoka faces heightened expectations from their supporters, who are eager to see if the team can maintain their winning form. With two major trophies already secured, the pressing question is whether Lautoka can achieve a treble by adding the IDC title to their collection. All eyes will be on the Blues as they gear up for one of the most significant football events of the year.
